Principal Software Engineer

Privacy

This is a personal portfolio for Simon Betton, a principal software engineer in Auckland, New Zealand. The site does not offer user accounts, comment threads, or a hosted contact form. You can read the public pages, download a CV, watch published case-study video, or start an email in your own mail client. This page describes what the site actually does with information, not a generic SaaS privacy template.

I am the person responsible for this website. Privacy questions go to the same inbox I use for work: me@simonbetton.com. I treat that mail as correspondence, not as a marketing list.

What this site collects

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most hosts, Vercel records technical request data such as IP address, user agent, requested path, and timestamps so the deployment can run, stay secure, and be debugged. I do not run a first-party analytics product, advertising pixel, or account database on simonbetton.com. There is no newsletter signup and no cookie banner because this site does not set its own tracking cookies.

The header “Get in touch” control opens a mailto link to me@simonbetton.com. The message is written and sent in your mail client. This website does not receive or store that email unless you send it. If you attach files or include personal details, treat that as you would any other email to a person you are hiring.

Third parties you may reach from here

  • GitHub serves the header portrait and hosts public repositories linked from the site. Visiting those links is a visit to GitHub under GitHub’s terms.
  • LinkedIn is linked from the footer. Opening that profile is a visit to LinkedIn.
  • Some case studies embed video through Mux. Playing a video loads media from Mux’s network.
  • Hover previews on outbound links fetch publicly advertised preview data (title, description, image) from the destination site so you can see where the link goes before you leave.
  • The optional “Send me Doge” flow talks to BlockCypher and related Ðogecoin infrastructure to resolve and watch a payment address. Use it only if you intend to send Ðogecoin. Blockchain payments are public by design.

Requests and changes

If you email me, I keep the correspondence so I can reply and, if we work together, do the job. I do not sell contact details. I do not use this site to profile visitors for advertising. If you want a copy of mail you sent, or you want me to delete a thread that is not needed for an active engagement, write to me@simonbetton.com and say so.

This policy describes the current portfolio. If hosting, video, or payment providers change in a way that affects what is collected, I will update this page. The CV download is a static PDF; downloading it does not create an account.
